WILSON COUNTY JAIL MINISTRY

INMATE SUPPORT PROGRAM

The Inmate Support Program has recently been established as a community outreach ministry under the oversight of the Elders of Maple Hill Church of Christ. The program is comprised of individuals desiring to assist inmates and their families in recovering from bad choices. The program is multi-facet with the intent of assisting with the rehabilitation of inmates as well as providing support for families during their incarceration.

1.    A class is taught on Wednesday nights at the Maple Hill Church of Christ which parallels the class being taught in the jail. Inmates released prior to completing training in “Every State Contentment” have the option of completing the program on the outside.

 2.   The program is open to any families of inmates desiring to study the same material  being studied by the inmate. Transportation is provided for those needing it as well as classes for the children.

 3.    A mentor family is assigned to each inmate enrolled in the program. Each inmate receives a visit once a week. When requested, the family is contacted and visited to determine any needs while the inmate is incarcerated.

4.    Birthday, Christmas and other special occasion cards are sent to each inmate in the program as well as answers to any letters received.

 5. A Bible study course is provided for any inmates in the program who specifically request the material. The courses are graded by the mentor family and returned with notes of encouragement.

 6. Every effort is made to assimilate the released inmates and their families into the activities of the church and provide them with a new set of friends who will be a positive influence in their lives.

7. Every effort is made to see that, upon release, the inmate has no need to rely on old friends for either companionship or support. The primary reason inmates return to jail is because they return to old friends, old places and old habits following their release from incarceration.

8.   Every effort is made to assist the inmate in find finding gainful employment.

9. By breaking this cycle inmates eho are serious about improving their lives receive the support necessary to become productive citizens of our community.
